Alcohol Education Initiative Current & Proposed Activities

In Focus Magazine: A literary and art magazine for high school aged students that includes stories, poems, photography and illustrations all created by the students themselves. The magazine also includes humorous cartoons that point out the negative aspects of underage drinking and substance abuse. The publication also provides stats and articles on the dangers of these issues and it is distributed free to thousands of high school students. We intend to expand this publication in regard to content and number of students reached.

In Focus for Junior High: The same basic idea but targeted and distributed to Junior High Students.
Mentoring: Expanding our mentoring program to reach a great deal more young people and adults. While mentors may volunteer their time there are cost in educating them and reimbursing them for the activities they do with the people they are mentoring.

Public Speaking: We have had no real difficulty getting into schools to speak at assemblies. But there are travel and material costs.

Establishing a Proven Model for Teen Centers: Many communities are building teen centers in an attempt to combat the increasing problems among today’s youth. But the kids aren’t going. Just as James Riordan was asked to consult in the creation of the Salvation Army’s teen center program (funded by the Kroc family from their McDonalds corporation) because his teen center, Jeremiah’s: A Place to Be Yourself, was one of the fastest growing and most successful teen centers in the nation, we want to test, model and document what it takes to operate a successful teen center.

Anti-Underage Drinking Advertising Campaigns: Warning the youth of the dangers and providing them with the daunting statistics on this problem.
